S.1881: Defunding of Planned Parenthood

I will openly admit that I do not know that much about the workings of our government and the things I do know were mostly learned from watching West Wing. I also, in my year of blogging, have avoided most, if not all, controversial topics. However, I guess there is a first for everything.

According to their 2013-2014 annual report, Planned Parenthood received more than $500 million dollars of taxpayer money. Tomorrow (Monday) the U.S. Senate will be voting on S.1881, a bill to prohibit Federal funding Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The bill will not reduce Federal funding available in support of women’s health and in fact states that “all funds no longer available to Planned Parenthood will continue to be made available to other eligible entities to provide women’s health care services.”

If you are in support of this bill, I would encourage you to write to your senators and ask them to vote YES on S.1881. If you live in Hawaii, Hawaii Family Forum has created a very easy template you can use which automatically emails Senator Mazie Hirono and Senator Brian Schatz. For those of you who don’t live here, feel free to use this template below. And for those of you who are not in support of this bill, I completely respect that as your opinion and right in this free country in which we live.

Template Letter to your Senator

As a resident in your district, I ask you to vote YES on S.1881 to defund Planned Parenthood. A series of undercover videos has exposed Planned Parenthood’s dangerous and deadly practices. These videos have shown top Planned Parenthood officials and medical staff callously discussing the strategic dismemberment of pre-born children for the possible sale of their organs. According to their most recent annual report, Planned Parenthood received more than $500 million in federal funds. This is unacceptable. Please, stop this inhumane organization from receiving Federal funding.
